Sometimes an old idea just sticks with you. Snapcrap is one of those - a concept I encountered a while back that I just had to try and replicate. The core idea? Taking ordinary photos and injecting some chaos with AI-generated captions that range from mildly amusing to completely unhinged.
This project was pure "vibe coding" – just me, the editor, and the goal of bringing this quirky idea to life. It involved exploring some image manipulation libraries and hooking into an AI model for the text generation. There were definitely some interesting challenges along the way, especially in getting the right level of "unhinged-ness" without being nonsensical.
It's a fun little experiment in creative AI and a reminder that sometimes the most enjoyable projects are the ones built just for the fun of it. Check out the link on the homepage if you want to see it in action!
